There’s something inherently magical about the pit. The space between the artist and 10,000 fans, uncertain of the light, the band movement, or what to expect from the performance. It’s raw energy and wonderful chaos. Being a concert photographer for over a decade has led me into some great shoots, from shooting small (legendary) intimate venues such as The Grey Eagle to festivals like Merlefest. My approach to being a concert photographer has always been timing first, to get the perfect exposure, creative angles, and crowd interaction, and spend an equal amount of time in post production with extreme detail. Being a musician myself, I understand the importance of capturing the energy of these passing moments, because there’s no argument that live music is one of the greatest things we have on this earth to enjoy.
